Where Can I Go Now?

Thinking of travelling again soon? We are pleased to announce that many Latin American countries are safe to visit once more and have removed Covid restrictions. The following countries are all open and some have no entry requirements like Mexico and Costa Rica, or just require proof of vaccination like Panama, or require vaccination plus an online form, like Ecuador and Peru. What’s more the weather is wonderful at this time of year, and many of the wildlife spots are at their most fascinating.


Argentina Cordoba region

Argentina has just scrapped testing for entry. An online declaration of vaccination status is required 48 hours prior to arrival. Travel insurance that covers Covid is required, but no other official requirements. Land borders with Chile will open May 1st. 2022. Belize Lubaatun ruins

Belize has opened all airports and borders. Since March 1, 2022, fully vaccinated travellers no longer require a negative test for entry into Belize’s airport. Unvaccinated travellers must still present a negative PCR result taken within 72 hours of arrival or a negative Antigen Rapid test taken within 48 hours of arrival. All visitors to Belize are required to purchase Belize Travel Health Insurance, a mandatory insurance that helps protect travellers against incurred medical and non-medical expenses if they test positive for COVID-19 during their stay. Brazil Rio Paratí

Brazil welcomes international travellers and virtually all destinations and tourist attractions are open. All internationally arriving travellers must be fully vaccinated (at least 2 doses, except single dose for the Janssen vaccine) at least 14 days before heading to Brazil. This vaccination policy applies to adults and children from 12 years of age. The booster dose is recommended, but not mandatory by the Federal Government.   However, Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo health authorities decreed as mandatory the booster dose.   Non-vaccinated travellers from 12 years of age and onwards must present a negative PCR (no more than 72 hours) or antigen test (no more than 24 hours) prior to boarding. All land border crossings in Chile will be reopened from May 1st, 2022 without any additional restrictions. Travellers will still have to complete an online form and require compulsory travel medical insurance with a minimum coverage of USD 30,000. Passengers may be randomly selected for PCR or antigen testing upon entry. The Atacama Desert is a highlight throughout the year, the Lake District popular for outdoorsy types and Patagonia for those who wish to get away from it all. Colombia has remained relatively open throughout the pandemic, with limited regulations for visitors. Proof of full vaccination status is currently needed to fully experience of the country. Tests are no longer required to enter. Within 24 hours before the flight departure to enter or leave the country, passengers must complete a migration Check-Mig form. Colombia is probably the most bio-diverse country in the World and a haven for bird watchers and orchid aficionados. There are also a range of cultural gems and landscapes from the coffee region, Amazon, Andes and two distinct coastlines. The national airline has just started direct flights again from London. From Bogota there is connectivity all over the country or on to neighbouring countries. Costa Rica

Costa Rica opened its borders to international arrivals a while ago and has been receiving plenty of visitors, mainly from North America and parts of Europe.  Vaccination is no longer required to enter the country, no testing required and no more online forms. Ecuador Andes Chagras

Ecuador was one of the first countries in South America to open back up to travellers arriving with negative test results, then they took the bold step of vaccinating 100% of the adult population on the Galapagos Islands. Travellers can enter with either: Complete COVID-19 vaccination certificate with QR Code; or vaccination card (two doses, and at least 14 days of validity after completing scheme); or, a negative result of a COVID-19 RT-PCR test, taken within a maximum of 72 hours before boarding their flight. In addition, international air must present the digital “Traveller’s Health Declaration” when boarding the plane. To complete the form, enter the following link: Staying away from crowds seems to be a priority as the three most popular hotel requests are Sacha Lodge in the jungle, Samari Spa Hotel in Baños, and Hacienda Zuleta in the countryside. To enter you need either a COVID-19 vaccination card or certificate (last dose must have been administered a minimum of 2 weeks prior). This applies only to people over 12 years old; or, a Negative COVID-19 test: Antigen or PCR no more than 3 days before boarding the plane to Guatemala (only applies to people over 10 years old). Mexico tulum

Mexico kept its borders open and never required a test to enter, so its beach resorts have been very popular destinations. We can recommend the luxury Grand Velas Riviera Maya. Travellers who enter Panama by air, sea or land must have the complete vaccinations or at least have received two of the doses. You need a digital record of the vaccination prior to travel or present the physical vaccination card at the port of entry to the country. On the other hand, travellers who are not vaccinated must present a negative PCR or antigen test with less than 72 hours. Panama took its time opening back up and has kept some restrictions in place, but it’s the hub for Copa Air, so getting there is relatively easy. See our Panama tour ideas.

Peruvian authorities have recently updated their entry requirements. Now, all foreign vaccinated travellers do not need a booster dose. Travellers 12 years and older must prove a completed COVID-19 vaccine dose, at least 14 days before boarding, or present a negative molecular test performed 48 hours or less than the scheduled boarding time. Filling the online affidavit of health is also required before your departure. Peru depends on tourists for family, adventure, culinary, and cultural trips. An online declaration is required 48 hours prior to arrival. Plus travel insurance that covers Covid. No other official requirements. Vaccination is not mandatory for those who have recovered from Covid between 10 and 90 days before arrival.
