Vance Speaks at Museum, Historical Society Dinner – Chillicothe News Constitution-Tribune

The Grand River Museum and Historical Society held their quarterly dinner on October 12. Larry Vance was the guest speaker. His topic, since it is close to Halloween, was the Dark Side of the Livingston County area. He spoke about Haun’s Mill and the untimely and unsolved demise of Sheriff Jennings. He also gave details of the Meek family massacre. Shady dealings and cattle rustling foretold that tragedy. He ended with Slagle’s Mill. Slagle did go through a lot of wives, but did he actually murder them? He did commit the first homicide in Livingston County by shooting his brother-in-law, but was acquitted of that murder. Vance’s program was well received. Members look forward to another great dinner in January.
