Israel’s efforts to discredit South Africa’s Gaza genocide case against it as dishonest and flawed have been rejected by the International Court of Justice (ICJ). And, Karyn Maughan writes, the ICJ’s interim ruling now demands from Israel that which it has most resisted: accountability.
South Africa’s genocide case against Israel was greeted with accusations of antisemitism and dishonesty from the country’s government – and condemnation and “disgust” by, among others, the Biden administration and US legislators.
US National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby called South Africa’s submissions to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) “meritless, counterproductive, and completely without any basis in fact whatsoever.”
